Access Services

The Access Services Department is responsible for checkout of library materials and equipment and for Interlibrary Loan.

Borrowing

Loan Period: As a student, you may borrow a total of 12 titles at a time, for a loan period of 3 weeks.

Print Collections: You may borrow books from our circulating print collection located on the free-standing bookshelves east of the Open Computer Lab workstations. You may also borrow books from our rental collection of fiction and nonfiction best-sellers on display along the tops of the periodical shelving. If you decide you no longer want to check out a particular book, please place it on one of the many carts stationed at the ends of the print collection shelving. Please do not reshelve it - we keep usage statistics on items used in the Library but not checked out.

Reference Collection: Our Reference books do not check out, but may be used anywhere in the Library. This collection is housed on rows of compact shelving located near the north end of the Library. When finished with a Reference book, we ask that you place it on one of the blue carts stationed near the Reference collection. Please do not reshelve it - we keep usage statistics on items used in the Library but not checked out.

Returning

Inside Return: You may return your books at the Circulation Desk during the Library's normal hours of service. We prefer that you give them directly to the staff member at the Circulation Desk, but you may also slip them into the Book Return slot located on the south side of the Circulation Desk counter.

Outside Return: We also have an outside Book Return conveniently located near the South entrance of the LRC and available 24/7.

Renewing

By Phone or In Person: You may renew your books once for another 3 weeks, by phone (733-7338) or in person during our normal hours of service. However, if someone else has placed a HOLD on that book, you cannot renew it.

Online: If your books are not overdue, you may renew them yourself by creating an RSC Library account. To do this, go to the RSC Library catalog main page and click "Sign In" in the upper right corner of the screen. Your RSC ID number is your user name (do not include your initials). Next, select "set/reset password". A link to create your password will be sent to your Raider email account. If you have any problems with this process, please call the Circulation Desk at 733-7338 and we will guide you through.

Why Create on Online Account? You will need to create an online Library account so you can do the ffollowing actions online: renew your books, place a hold on a book, or request an item through Interlibrary Loan. (Of course you can also simply call or stop by the Circulation Desk.)

NOTE: Please renew your books before they become overdue. This will make life easier for everyone.
