Rose State College Library Policies

This guide includes information on services and policies at the Rose State College Library.

Code of Conduct

Students, faculty, staff, and guests must follow all Rose State College policies while visiting the Learning Resources Center. Failing to comply with these policies or with any reasonable staff request may result in being reported to campus security and/or the Office of Student Conduct.

Computer Usage Policy

Computer Usage Policy Statement

The College provides a wide variety of computer resources and facilities for use by Rose State College students, faculty, and staff. In addition, limited library system access is provided to individuals from authorized high schools and institutions of higher education.

Computer Guest Policy

  • Community members and non-students are considered guests.
  • Students are the first priority for computer usage.
  • Each guest must check in at the Ask Here Desk and show a valid driver's license or any other state or federal picture ID to obtain a guest log-in.
  • Students are the first priority for computer usage. When the library's computer lab is busy, a guest will be asked to relinquish their computer if a student has need of it and all other computers are in use.
  • Guests must be 16 years of age or older
  • A child under 16 will be logged in ONLY if the parent/guardian is with them at all times - i.e. not in the cafe, not in testing or tutoring, not outside, etc. They can be logged in as an individual user or the parent/student can log them in using their own credentials.
  • Guests may print up to 10 pages a day for free; no color printing is available.

Library Assistance Policy

Library patrons are not permitted to monopolize library space, equipment, materials, facilities, and staff time.

Library staff provide basic assistance such as:

  • Logging on to computers
  • Basic computer troubleshooting
  • Printer issues
  • Copy/scan services

Staff cannot help with homework, writing papers, or business that is personal of nature; this includes applying for services or employment applications. For homework or tutoring assistance, students may visit the Tutoring Center and Writing Lab located on the 2nd floor of the LRC. Guests attending classes elsewhere will need to utilize their respective college's resources.

Cell Phone Use Policy

Please silence cell phones upon entering the library. Please take phone conversations to non-study areas. This includes the lobby, entrances, halls, and stairwells of the LRC.

Supervision of Children

For safety reasons, children on campus must be supervised by an adult at all times. Staff members cannot assist with supervision of children during the performance of their duties. We have several small study, testing, and tutoring rooms that may be used by parents to keep children with them while they are completing coursework. Students are encouraged to book these rooms in advance when possible. The library assumes no responsibility for minors.

Noise Policy

The library computer lab is intended to be a collaborative zone designed for students. Additionally, because of the computer lab's proximity to the Circulation Desk and Ask Here Desk, noise levels may vary. There is to be no expectation of complete silence in these areas. However, a reasonable level of noise throughout the entire library is always expected. Patrons may purchase headphones for $1.00 at the Circulation desk.

The designated area as a quiet study zone is located in the east side of the library. Patrons are asked to keep phones silenced and conversations to a minimum in this area.

Food and Drink Policy

Food and drinks with a lid/cover are generally permitted in the library. Food cannot be eaten at the computers. Drinks with a lid or cover may be consumed at the computers.

General Checkout Policy

Students may check out books for 21 days. Twelve books may be on loan to a student at any one time. Fines may be charged depending on the item not returned. For more information, please visit the Circulation desk.

The student or other patron is responsible for all material charged to his/her account.  A student or other patron who keeps materials beyond the check-out period of 21 days is subject to fines and to suspension of his/her borrower privileges.

Overdue materials may be returned at any time and records cleared when the borrower pays his/her fines. However, materials kept out for more than one year that are damaged, already replaced, or obsolete may not be accepted. In these instances, the Director of the Learning Resources Center/Library, or the Librarian on duty may, at his/her discretion, charge the student or other patron the full value of the book.

Equipment Checkout

The Library has a wide variety of equipment that instructors may use in the classroom. Call the Circulation Desk at 405-733-7338  or ext. 7338 to arrange for needed equipment.

Guidelines for Equipment Checkout
  • We cannot guarantee availability of equipment without advance notice of need.
  • Equipment must not be taken from the campus unless authorized at the time of checkout.
  • Equipment is subject to recall after a reasonable length of time.

Instructors should not loan equipment to another instructor without notifying Audiovisual Services.
Students and part time staff cannot check out equipment. Instructors must check out equipment for students when it is needed for class projects, demonstrations, etc.

Equipment checks out for a one-week period and must be brought back when due or renewed through the Circulation Desk.
