Supporting faculty through best practices in teaching and learning.

Faculty Support

Learning about Canvas

Faculty are regularly added to a Growing with Canvas orientation course. You should see this course on your Canvas Dashboard. If you don't see the course, please submit a helpdesk ticket and we will add you. The Growing with Canvas course is a self-paced, fully online course that will help you learn the basic tools and features of Canvas.

The Help menu item in Canvas will open a page that has a link to make it easy to search Canvas Guides for additional resources and details about how to use the platform. If you would like additional help using Canvas, please submit an eLearn Support ticket and tell us what you need or request an appointment.

Canvas Courses for Teaching Assignments

Canvas courses for teaching assignments should automatically appear in Canvas on your Dashboard or under Courses (found in the Canvas menu). To access a course, click the course title or the course tile. Keep in mind that your students will not be able to access your course until it is published. As soon as you are ready for the course to be viewable by students, please select the Publish option in the upper right corner of the course home page. If possible, please publish your course at least a week before the start of the session so students can see course requirements and have necessary course materials by the first day of class.

Canvas Courses for Course Development

Any instructor may request a Canvas Sandbox that can be used as a place to experiment with settings or features, try out ideas, and view publisher packages. If you don't have a Canvas Sandbox course and would like one, please submit an eLearn Support ticket. If you desire a more formal Canvas shell for course development, one with a more specific name than the generic sandbox, please include this in your request. We would be happy to help.

Teaching Online Masterclass

The Teaching Online Masterclass, is a video course available through our Films on Demand collection designed to help educators adapt quickly to online teaching. The video content is chunked so topics of interest may be watched as time allows and tailored to individual needs.
